A Seaside Chapel Wedding in Crete
Nikki & Trevor got married in Crete on 26th June 2015. Their ceremony took place outside one of the most stunning chapels we’ve ever seen, almost floating on the sea at the end of a path from the beach.
Their reception took place at the nearby Beachfront Taverna. In the evening they had a DJ and fireworks
How did you meet?
We met when we were both 18 Years old, Trevor was a Door Supervisor at a bar in our local city Sunderland and I worked in a Travel Agency over the road, with the help of friends we ended up going on our first date to a boxing show.
Tell us about the proposal?
Trevor proposed on Christmas Day, We normally spend the day with family but he drove us in the wrong direction back home as he had ‘forgotten’ something.
I was frustrated as I did not want to be late for my Christmas dinner, I even tried staying in the car while he ran into our home to pick up whatever it was, he talked me in and asked me to get something out of the safe, I was quite confused as we rarely keep anything in the safe but when I opened it the ring was inside.
Trevor was so nervous he didn’t even say anything!
Why did you decide to marry in Crete?
We knew we wanted to get married abroad and did do a lot of research on venues, We didn’t know where we wanted but we knew we wanted somewhere close enough for as many people to come as possible and somewhere a little different. We found Ionian Weddings through an internet search and after reading reviews decided they were the best company to plan our wedding.
Neither of us had been to the Greek Islands before but we fell in love with the Chapel in the sea, it was unusual and the setting looked beautiful which is why we decided on Crete.
It was a little nerve racking as we had never been there before and the first time actually seeing the venue would be a few days before our wedding but Ionian Weddings were there to answer all questions and provide photos every step of the way which really put our minds at ease.
Tell us about the theme for your wedding…colours etc?
For the Ceremony itself we wanted the venue itself to be the decoration, it is such a beautiful setting nothing else was needed. the Bridesmaids had white lace fans rather than flowers
and after the Ceremony we had the Local Express Train pick us all up from the bottom of the pier and take us to see a traditional Greek Village and the Lakes.
I am quite creative and wanted to organise the decorations and theme as much as possible, together we decided on the theme colour to keep in with the Greek surroundings with mainly white and hints of robin egg blue.
We wanted to stick with simple for our rustic barbeque reception and make it fun for the guests, We had props set up on a table for photo’s and we included Chinese lanterns as favours for guests to write on a wish and send into the sky during the firework display as well as sparklers and local greek olive soaps.
Ionian Weddings kindly put up our Blue hanging lanterns around the venue and quirky signs onto the palm trees and place the blue petals on the tables and around the grounds.
We kept the theme very casual, the main thing for us was for everyone to have a good time, feel comfortable and to be there with the most important people to us.
Where was your wedding dress from?
My Wedding dress was from a store in the North East of England called Brides and Beauty, I knew exactly what style of dress I wanted and the Girls at the store were amazing helping me find it and also giving me the option of customising it slightly to make it more personal to me.
Did you do anything special with your guests leading up to the wedding?
We had a 20 Guest Villa in a small town called Prines, so the night before we all went into Rethymnon for a meal, it was also my Dad’s Birthday so it was a double celebration, We dined in a traditional open air restaurant and also organised a surprise Birthday Cake for my Dad.
The whole week was special, every night we were all together either in the local bars or having a barbeque at the Villa which made the excitement of the Wedding last way longer than just one day and it will be something we will never forget.
Most couples have something they wish they did different on their Wedding Day but we can honestly say we would not change a thing.
What The Couple Had To Say
Thanks Ionian Weddings for making it so special and exactly what we wanted, with a special Thank You to Rachel in the UK and Kostas in Crete.
